In both yard management and in equipment yard tracking, the objectives are two-fold - operational visibility and efficiency - because both directly generate profit.

In terms of yard management, a single mis-ship (perhaps from a mismatched trailer and load) at a third-party logistics provider can negate the profit on a shipment, and the one that follows. In equipment yard tracking, for example, at a rental equipment company, the company profits from turnover of equipment, and so needs to optimize asset utilization and inventory visibility.
